Carol Diaz

Blackfeet

“Soatsakii” Blackfeet Indian Name

”Feather Woman” : English Translation

I am preserving my culture by creating original designed, Native American, uniquely beaded scenes and other Plains tribal items of artwork as inspired by stories and /or visions in dreams as guided by “Naa-to-yo-tapiiksi” Spirit Beings that speak to me in my dreams. I’m enrolled member of the Blackfeet Nation, Northern Plains Tribe.

My great great grandfather was the Blackfeet Medicine Man “Brings Down The Sun” and “Bird”. The great granddaughter of “Sure Chief” and “Double Gun Woman”.

I attended the Institute of American Indian Arts, Santa Fe New Mexico. Northern State University in Aberdeen South Dakota and Presentation College, Aberdeen South Dakota.

All of Carol’s items are original designed, traditionally made and hand sewn – Native American beadwork to create cultural scenes; Beaded arrows; jewelry using hair pipe bone such as in chokers and breast plates. Are use a variety of tan Buffalo, deer and elk hides for leather shields, bags and/or medicine pouches; traditional Native American clothing: three hide dresses, leather war shirts and rawhide seed pouches and rattles.
