DAINA RAMSEY

Peace, solitude and self-expression-these are three aspects of life that are very important to me. When I first explored basket making, it was my desire for a quiet and relaxing way to pass the evenings after work that motivated me to pursue it as a hobby, this craft has since evolved into much more, almost a form of healing therapy.

As a two-time cancer survivor, I feel that the malignancy and its harsh treatments may have destroyed some of my body, but left my soul strong and intact,

I value life experiences and nature even more, and my human spirit-my native spirit - takes over, moving through my hands so that each basket I create takes on a life of its own. Each one evolves during the many hours invested and earns my emotional attachment. Like nurturing a child, I love to watch each one take shape and grow in my hands. As a result of my care and focused effort something solid and beautiful Is expressed.

l am a new artist and self-taught, but I don't think that a formal education could have taught me to make baskets the way I do.

My accomplishments so far are:

First Place in the Basket Division in the 2022 Chickasaw Employee Art Show, for my Snake woman Basket.

I currently have Baskets in the Tribes Galley in Norman Oklahoma. I am officially A Made in Oklahoma Artist.
