Peter Paul Bruno
I was born in the Pawnee Indian Hospital in 1949-
I am a member of the Citizen Band Potawatomi Nation. My interest in art and being an artist is easy for me to pinpoint; crayons, construction paper, and forth grade! By high school I had graduated to oils and canvas. Along the way, Playdough and Legos played no part in my artistic development!
INFLUENCES
At and early age i became more fascinated with the stories and company of the elders in my family and community. The experiences of the “Stomp Dances” and Powows that we went to all over Oklahoma were an early influence on my interest in the visual arts.
Later, living on the Navaho Reservation in the late 50’s, provided the deep appreciation and love i have for the Southwestern landscape and people. Living in Arizona and New Mexico over different times gave me opportunities to work and study with other artists.
My fascination with the Native Southwest and my forth grade teacher’s obsession with the French impressionists flows through my art.
ART
Art is Beauty. Art is Medicine. Art is Magic. Art is a gift we give ourselves to connect to the sensuous and joyful appreciation of that which is beyond the mundane. I acknowledge the teachings, ancestors, and history of The People through my works.
