Created in France circa 1870, and standing on a newer oval green marble base, the sculpture composition depicts a hunting setter holding a pheasant in his mouth. The large sculpture is in excellent condition, with a rich patinated bronze finish, and signed on the base by the artist "J. Moigniez". A wonderful addition for any ranch house or hunting lodge!
Jules Moigniez (1835-1894) was a French animalier (animal) sculptor who was active during the 19th century. His output was primarily cast in bronze and he frequently exhibited his sculptures at the Paris Salon. He was best known for his bronzes depicting birds, although his skill and versatility enabled him to produce quality horse sculptures (primarily racehorses), dog sculptures and hunting scenes. His bird sculptures were among the finest ever created during his time. Listed in the Benezit. Weight 56 pounds.
